Dan

Dan came to Better Jobs, Better Futures after finishing College, having studied a Level 2 NVQ in Electrical Engineering. Dan was unemployed at the time and was looking to secure an apprenticeship in Business Administration. Struggling to find the right support to help him achieve his goal, Dan began working with Career Coach Lisa to discuss his options and establish his individual pathway into employment.

“It was clear from my first meeting with Dan that he was a very employable young man with some fantastic skills. I was excited to see what opportunities we could secure to help kick-start his career journey” – Lisa, Career Coach

Dan knew an apprenticeship in business was the right route for him after gaining exposure and experience through a work placement at Broomfield Alexander, the leading independent accountancy firm in Wales. With a clear focus on what he wanted to achieve, Dan worked with Lisa to update his CV, tailoring the content to emphasise his relevant achievements.

“The people here are fantastic and try and bring the best out of you: that is their whole purpose and they always go that extra bit further” – Dan

As well as working on his CV, Dan wanted to build his confidence in interview scenarios. Dan began working with Recruitment Consultant, Dan Parvin, to learn and practice interview techniques, specifically focusing on how to approach competency based questions. Dan showed huge improvement every time he undertook a mock interview, preparing more thoroughly, using more sophisticated answers and exuding increased confidence and professionalism on each occasion. Dan’s positive attitude was exemplary and he was always keen to learn as much as possible to improve his chances of success.

“It has been a pleasure working with Dan as he is a pleasant, positive and hardworking young man with huge potential. Dan took on board all the advice he was given and I have no doubt that he will be an asset to any employer” – Dan Parvin, Recruitment Consultant

Within a week of receiving support, and with guidance from other members of the Better Jobs, Better Futures team, Dan made significant progress and successfully secured an interview with Kaymac Marine & Civil Engineering LTD. This was a fantastic opportunity, giving Dan the chance to secure a marketing and administration role in the company, whilst also enabling him to complete his business administration apprenticeship.

Putting into practice all the employability skills he gained and techniques he learned, Dan performed extremely well at interview and impressed the employer. A few days later, Dan was offered the job and was absolutely delighted.

“I am so grateful for all the support I have had from Better Jobs, Better Futures. I have no doubt that the help I have had will benefit me for the rest of my future and I am looking forward to the next chapter and new challenges” – Dan
