Connor

Connor came to Better Jobs, Better Futures whilst studying plumbing full time at college and working part-time at McDonalds. Connor was looking for support to find a plumbing apprenticeship and specifically wanted help with tailoring his CV to make it industry specific. Struggling to find the right type of advice and guidance, and becoming increasingly frustrated and discouraged, Connor was becoming desperate in looking for that breakthrough opportunity.

With the support of Career Coach Jo and Recruitment Consultant Dan, Connor worked on improving the content of his CV and also received support with his application writing. Dan and Connor worked closely on an application for a full time council apprenticeship and started preparing for the upcoming screening and interview process through regular mock interview practice and one-to-one coaching. Having never had to understand competencies when applying for a job before, Connor was extremely receptive to all of the advice and guidance he received and got to grips with the process in no time at all.

After completing his apprenticeship application, Connor was invited to interview and asked to complete two tests in Maths and English. Despite the complex application process, Connor remained resolute in his approach and was successful at every stage. From losing all motivation and almost dropping out of his College course to achieving his level 2 and securing a brilliant apprenticeship opportunity with long term career prospects, Connor’s success is testament to his ambition and unrelenting focus on his career goals.

“Working with you guys helped me to get the apprenticeship that I have wanted for 2 years and I wouldn’t have been able to get through the application without the help and guidance I received. Before I started coming here I was starting to feel really negative as I was applying for jobs but getting nowhere, and you kept me motivated and encouraged me to not give up on my dream job. Thank you” – Connor

With the support of the Better Jobs, Better Futures team Connor has made fantastic progress and is now on the path to a new and exciting career journey full of possibilities.

“It has been a pleasure working with Connor and supporting him to secure his apprenticeship. Connor has always had a positive attitude towards improving his skills and knowledge, and it is thanks to his determination that he has succeeded in achieving his goal. I wish Connor the best of luck for the future and I look forward to hearing about his ongoing progress.” – Dan, Recruitment Consultant
