Lorraine

Lorraine came to Better Jobs, Better Futures for support in finding alternative employment having struggled to find stability and security within her current and previous roles. Specifically looking for an administration position, Lorraine was completely focused on what she wanted to achieve and the type of employability support she required.

“It was Shaw Trust who suggested that I come to the Better Jobs, Better Futures team. I had no idea that this place even existed as I thought that Gower College only dealt with students.” – Lorraine

Working closely with Career Coaches Ange and Ade, Lorraine received support in carrying out smart and effective job searching, with a firm focus on finding a role that she could feel happy, secure and content in. Lorraine quickly became job search savvy and started to gain a great deal of self-belief as she steadily formulated her individual pathway to employment.

“Both Angela and Ade have been fantastic, their support has been amazing” – Lorraine

In addition to job searching support, Lorraine also worked on refining her CV and improving her application writing ability. Lorraine also undertook numerous mock interviews in order to build her confidence and get used to managing her nerves in order to deliver calm and considered responses in high pressured situations.

“Everybody has been so supportive, helpful and friendly towards me. I had help with everything such as my CV, job searching and interview practice – I even had help to brush up on my Excel skills from Ade!” – Lorraine

Through working with the Better Jobs, Better Futures team, Lorraine greatly developed her skills, knowledge and experience; her willingness to listen and learn combined with her consistently positive attitude resulted in her quickly securing an administration role with Gower College Swansea’s External Funding department.

“When I came in my confidence was so low due to a combination of things which have happened in my life, but everyone here has helped me come through it and coming here has turned into the best thing that I have ever done. I’m so excited about my future, it’s just like wow! I’m so excited about my new job and people think that I’m mad because I can’t wait for Monday mornings!” – Lorraine
